Job Description:

Our client, one of the largest Amazon Web Services (AWS) partner for data services, is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join their elite team of technologists to build and contribute to large-scale, innovative projects. Our client wants candidates who are eager to learn and grow with them as they work to move their market monitoring applications to modern big data platforms in the cloud where up to 235 billion market events are being processed each day.


If you are a fast learner, have a sharp mathematical and technical mind and are interested in working for one of the biggest data users in the country in a fast-paced, open source environment, our client has an immediate need for a Software Engineering Manager.


Our client's Data Platform is responsible for the collection, management and dissemination of data. It's an enterprise capability that services multiple business lines across the entire organization. The platform collects and processes data in support of their regulatory mission to protect investors and promote market integrity. We are embarking upon a large, multi-year, enterprise-wide initiative to re-platform major pieces of our existing offering, replacing legacy functionality with a set of modern, highly customer-centric products and capabilities.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead and manage several agile development teams with responsibility for one or more software products.
  • Collaborate on and influence cross-organization and cross-product initiatives.
  • Partner with peers and leaders across organizational boundaries, communicating effectively with people throughout the organization in both Business and Technology.
  • Establish credibility as a coach and leader, in turn driving collaboration with architects and other technical experts to foster technical innovation and the use of advanced techniques and technologies (e.g., machine learning, process automation, advanced engineering practices, etc.) to enhance business value and reduce operational burden.
  • Understand viewpoints of and collaborate effectively with product managers, developers and architects to ensure that products are defined, architected, implemented, delivered, and supported in alignment with organizational strategy, goals, and standards while addressing business vision, strategy and needs.
  • Responsible for the credibility of estimates, consistently deliver on commitments with high quality product on a predictable schedule.
  • Responsible for technical integrity, compliance, and alignment to our technology strategy of software products over time.
  • Responsible for compliance of practices and products with all security, privacy, audit, and other requirements and Client standards.
  • Provide clear and timely communication to and effective coordination with stakeholders to ensure risks, issues and changes are well managed.
  • Drive and effectively manage projects with responsibility for outcomes, budget, schedule, resources, quality, risks, and internal and external dependencies.
  • Build and develop high performing, appropriately staffed, self-organizing agile development teams that deliver business value rapidly with high-quality products.
  • Assess software engineering practices and driving continuous improvement in engineering practices, operational efficiency, time to value and product quality.
  • Hire, coach, mentor and develop great engineers in this 'new normal'.


Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline with at least five (5) years of related experience, or equivalent training and / or work experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years managing one or more technology teams and projects including staff management of at least six (6) resources.
  • Experience and expertise in building, delivering and supporting software-intensive solutions with a focus on engineering, execution and operational excellence meeting stringent business, quality, security and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of industry-leading technology best practices and methods including agile software development, iterative delivery , serverless and other cloud technologies and philosophies.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships and leverage those relationships to improve the quality of work products.
  • Strong communication, organization, time management, interpersonal and management skills.
  • Outstanding problem identification, analysis and solving skills with a bias for action.
  • Proven change agent who can improve and grow the capability of an organization
  • Well organized, thorough, and able to handle competing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain focus and develop proficiency in new skills rapidly.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
